On 6 June 2000, meteorologist Michelle Kennedy of Fox 18 (WCCB-TV) in Charlotte NC visited Hilton Pond Center to shoot footage for that evening's 10 pm news slot. She was accompanied by videographer Kyle Carnes and Julie Yancey (below right), a summer intern from Winthrop University in nearby Rock Hill SC.

The crew taped Center executive director Bill Hilton Jr. as he netted and banded a female Red-eyed Vireo (Vireo olivaceous) with a brood patch. Kyle also got lots of shots of everything from dragonflies to a Diana butterfly feeding on Pickerelweed in a garden pool. Michelle is planning a return visit in late July to concentrate on hummingbirds that are sure to be plentiful by then.
