© Hilton Pond Center This dung beetle pair (Scarabaeidae) have formed a ball from suitably aged animal droppings and are using their strong hind legs to quickly roll it away for burial. The dung ball contains the beetles' eggs; when the eggs hatch, the beetle larva will feast on their scatological sphere. |
