WHATIZIT? |
Occasionally we come across a creature or artifact with which we're unfamiliar or for which we don't have a positive identification. And sometimes we recognize the specimen and know its name but because it's unusual we post its photograph as an on-line quiz. In either case, take a look at the photo(s) below and if you know for sure WHATIZIT?, please send an e-mail to WEBMASTER. The Carolina Butterfly Society visited Draper Wildlife Management Area and Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History during their 19 July foray. At both locations they found this caterpillar--on Shagbark Hickory at Draper, and on Black Walnut at Hilton Pond Center (not far from the Butternut Woolyworms). Actually, there were dozens going up and down the tree at Hilton Pond.
