THIS WEEK at HILTON POND
15-21 June 2003

VACATION WEEK

Every now and again, we have to take time off from all the excitement at Hilton Pond Center. This week it was for a triennial Dressler Family Reunion in the North Carolina mountains at Valle Crucis.

We'll be back next week with another photo essay and the results of our bird-banding efforts. In the meantime, perhaps you'd like to browse some of our past installments, listed in the Index for "This Week at Hilton Pond."

This time last year, spring vegetation at Hilton Pond Center had
already begun to turn brown from the drought, and the pond itself was nearing its all-time shallowest depth. This year, everything under the Shagbark Hickory
(at right, above) was looking pretty verdant, and the impoundment was at full pond in June for the first time in five years.
