On 12 June 2003, Ginger Kopka snapped this photo of a Carolina Anole, Anolis carolinensis, atop an old wooden chair in her backyard at Simpsonville SC. Easily visible are the lizard's eyelids and external ear hole. Carolina Anoles are green when warm or stimulated by a territoial dispute or a prospective mate; when cool or not otherwise stimulated they turn brown. |
